News from the Den- June 13

More ABC fun!

We have 8 days of our ABC Countdown left. Despite the smoke and the rain this week, we enjoyed the fun of the our ABC countdown. New Name Day was so much fun with all sorts of fun names that the students went with, from food to movie characters and much more. One of the best names ever was Mr. King, where we didn't just have one Mr. King that day, but SIX Mr. Kings! The potato sack races were a real hit, where students had fun racing in the burlap potato sacks and Quack, Quack, Quack day was just ducky. We even ended today with some nicer weather where students decorated our sidewalk with chalk.

This next week is another busy week at HHE! Eight more days of school, full of learning and fun.

ACTION

Fitset Ninja (June 18 & 19)
We are so fortunate that FAHHE has organized Fitset Ninja to come to our school. Each class will have the opportunity to participate in the Mobile Obstacle Course (June 18 or June 19), where Ninja Coaches will guide students to balance, jump and swing their way through the course.

In order for your child(ren) to participate, there are two forms that we will need- a paper form for Fitset Ninja and the Permission Click.

On June 18 Kindergarten and Grade 1-3 will participate. On June 19 Kindergarten and Grade 4-6 will participate. We are so excited for this exciting event. Thank you FAHHE!

OPPORTUNITY

Lunch on the Land
Heritage Hills Elementary School is excited to host our fourth Lunch On The Land on Friday, June 20th. All students will enjoy their lunches on the land and supervision will be provided. All of our families are invited and encouraged to join, but we understand work commitments make that hard for some parents. Your child(ren) will be welcome to eat with their friends outside if you are unable to attend.

Teachers will bring their classes out to the large soccer field at 11:55. If you plan to join us please meet our classes in the large soccer field.

Students are welcome to bring a picnic blanket, sunglasses, and sun hats.

Should the weather forecast indicate unfavourable weather and we need to shift these plans,  we will let you know closer to Friday, June 20th.

School Supplies for 2025-26 School Year
Heritage Hills Families you can now order your child’s school supplies right through our official school supply company School Start  (they are delivered right to your house) or purchase them on your own using the lists provided. Click here for more information and to see the specific lists for your child(ren)'s grade.

Pick up a summer reading kit for your child in Grade 1!
The Strathcona County Library prepares reading kits for Grade 1 students to encourage children to practice reading throughout the summer so they can build on their newly acquired reading skills. The kit is free and contains fun activities to keep students reading all summer long. Kits are available from June 1 to Aug. 24, 2025. Families can pick up kits from the main floor Information Desk at the Library or meet the Bookmobile at any of its weekly stops. Library staff ask families to bring their children to pick up their kits in person so staff members can meet them and welcome them to the library. Learn more

INFORMATION

Class Placements
Next Wednesday, June 18, we will be sending emails to inform families which class your child(ren) will be in next year. For each child going into Grades 1-6, you will receive an email to share the class placement that your child(ren) will be in. We know that the unknown can be unnerving for many students, and we hope that knowing this information earlier will help ease the transition for our students and families.

Grade 6 Farewell
Our Grade 6 Farewell will take place on the last day of school. We invite Grade 6 families to join us on Wednesday, June 25 @ 9:00 a.m. to celebrate and wish them all the best as they leave HHE to embark on their junior high adventure next school year.

Meet the Teacher BBQ
For those families returning to HHE next year, save the date for our Meet the Teacher BBQ. It will be the day before school starts. On Wednesday, August 27, from 4:30-6:00 p.m., families are invited to come meet their teacher(s), bring their school supplies (then they don't have to haul them the next day), and enjoy the BBQ hosted by FAHHE. It will be a great kick off to the new school year!
