News from the Den- May 9

This week was buzzing with volunteers in our school! We had many field trips, hot lunch, library volunteers, classroom volunteers, parent volunteers attending our School Council and FAHHE meetings (even on an evening the Oilers were playing), and sports team volunteers. We loved seeing so many volunteers come out to our Volunteer Tea today and we hope you know how big of an impact that you make at HHE!
A special shout out to our Run Club coaches. Over 100 students signed up to run during 2 lunch hours a week, training to run longer distances. Last weekend was the Run Wild Event and 28 of our Run Club students participated. A shout out to our coaches Erran Milligan, Mathieu Brosseau, Andrea Aleksic, Pam Zielke, Raelene Lowry, and Sandra Scott for running this club. A special thank you to Erran for organizing this incredible club and opportunity for our school.
Another big thank you to our Track Team coaches Lisa Gromnisky, Shawn Bresden and Chelsea Orlecki. Our students ran in their last race of the year on Thursday at the EIPS relays. Our grade 6 girls placed third in both of their races (4 x 200m as well as the medley relay), our grade 5 girls placed fourth in both of their races, and our grade 6 placed 4th in the medley relay! Thank you for an incredible year of running!
For those who were unable to make our Volunteer Tea, please pop by the office the next time you are in for a small token of our appreciation, created by some Grade 4 & 5 students.
We appreciate you!

INFORMATION
Educational Assistant Appreciation Day is May 14!
On May 14, we recognize the dedication, hard work and compassion of educational assistants in our school community and across Elk Island Public Schools. Educational assistants play an integral role in education, from one-on-one student support to larger classroom dynamics. Thank you to all our educational assistants—you make a difference in the lives of students every day, and we are so grateful to have each one of you in our school.
This Educational Assistant Appreciation Day and beyond, we encourage students, families and staff to take a moment to tell an educational assistant how they’ve impacted you and to share your appreciation with them.
EIPS Annual Education Results Report
Every year, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) publishes an Annual Education Results Report, which outlines the Division’s Four-Year Education Plan, growth opportunities and how it supports students in achieving the best possible outcomes. Read through this year’s EIPS Annual Education Results Report 2023-24 and discover how EIPS fosters learning environments for all students to learn, grow and thrive—and why it matters.

2024-25 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey: For Parents and Caregivers – Results now available
The results of the 2024-25 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey: For Parents and Caregivers are now available. In March, the Division conducted the annual survey, which helps EIPS gauge its progress toward meeting the goals and priorities outlined in its Four-Year Education Plan. Families were asked a series of questions about their experiences with EIPS and the school their child attends, the overall performance of the Division, the quality of education being provided to students and areas for improvement.
Thank you to all families who took the time to share their feedback with the Division. Overall, the survey received close to 2,400 responses from parents and caregivers across EIPS. The Division, and schools, will now review the feedback in detail and use it to develop new strategies to serve students and the wider community better.

Values In Action- Integrity
In May, HHE is focusing on the value of Integrity—doing the right thing even when no one is watching. At school, students are learning how honesty, responsibility, and making good choices help build strong character. You can continue these conversations at home with a few simple prompts and activities that highlight this important value:
Try These at Home:
- Talk About What They’ve Seen at School:
Ask: - “Have you seen a classmate do the right thing, even when no one told them to?”
- “Can you think of a time when someone was honest about a mistake? How was that handled?”
- “What does integrity look like at recess or in the hallways?”
- Share a Family Story:
Tell a story about a time you or someone in your family made a tough but honest choice, and how it made a difference. - Create an “Integrity Challenge” for the Week:
As a family, choose one way everyone will practice integrity for the week—like returning something that doesn’t belong to you, being honest even when it’s hard, or standing up for what’s right. Reflect at the end of the week on how it went!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to help students grow into kind, courageous, and trustworthy young people. Together, we’re making a difference!
